Personal Concept Project (Note: This was a university project, not an actual client assignment.)
In this project, the challenge was to create a unique 3D model bottle or diffuser and its corresponding secondary packaging, inspired by both an iconic human figure and a carefully selected word. The goal was to design a product that not only resonates with the chosen inspirations but also embodies sustainability through eco-friendly materials and production techniques. The inspiration for this project was drawn from Twiggy, the British model and actress renowned for her pioneering mod style and androgynous look. Twiggy's influence on contemporary beauty trends and her status as a lasting beauty icon provided the foundation for the design. Complementing this was the word "Innocence," which symbolizes purity, goodness, and moral uprightness, qualities that guided the design and branding choices. The project involved an extensive process, starting with the creation of a mood board and concept presentation. After selecting Twiggy and the theme of Innocence as the guiding inspirations, the focus shifted to designing a 3D model using sustainable materials like glass, ceramic, or 3D-printed eco-friendly components. The secondary packaging was crafted from paper or cardboard, with a focus on structural integrity and a cohesive visual identity that aligns with the product's concept. Throughout the project, the interplay between the chosen icon and word was carefully considered, ensuring that the final design captured the essence of both inspirations. The result was a harmonious blend of style, purity, and sustainability, showcased through the final 3D model and packaging, along with a complete visual identity system including logos, typography, and graphic elements.
Solo Project
The initial phase of the project involved extensive research and concept development, laying the foundation for both the product design and the branding strategy. The chosen inspirations were Twiggy, the iconic British model whose androgynous look and mod style revolutionized the fashion industry, and the concept of innocence, representing purity, simplicity, and moral uprightness. The research phase began with an analysis of Twiggy's influence on contemporary beauty trends. Her wide eyes, accentuated by dramatic eyeliner and lashes, became a defining feature of the 1960s fashion scene. This signature look, along with her enduring impact on fashion and beauty, served as a key visual and thematic inspiration for the product design. In parallel, the word "Innocence" was explored through its associated qualities—purity, guilelessness, and virtue. This concept provided a thematic counterpoint to Twiggy's bold style, grounding the project in a sense of untainted beauty and sincerity. The integration of these two inspirations guided the development of the product’s branding. A mood board was created to capture the essence of Twiggy's mod style and the serene qualities of innocence. This visual representation informed both the design of the 3D model and the branding elements, including the choice of color palette, typography, and logo design. In terms of branding, the project adopted a minimalist approach with a focus on simplicity and elegance. Black and white were chosen as the primary colors, symbolizing the brand's straightforward yet sophisticated identity. These colors were used extensively across backgrounds, text, and logos to maintain a clean and cohesive look. Secondary colors were carefully selected to add a dynamic and playful touch, reflecting the thematic elements of innocence and Twiggy's vibrant influence. The branding was designed to evoke a sense of purity and timelessness, aligning with the concept of innocence while paying homage to Twiggy's lasting impact on fashion and beauty. This comprehensive approach ensured that the product's visual identity was both cohesive and reflective of its core inspirations, setting the stage for the subsequent design phases.
With the concept solidified, the next phase involved translating the design into precise 2D technical drawings. These drawings detailed the structural elements of the 3D model, including the front, top, section, and side views. Materials were carefully chosen to reflect the eco-friendly ethos of the project, with glass or ceramic for the bottle body and lid, and sustainable printing methods like decals or hydrographic prints for the visual branding.
The final stage focused on bringing the concept to life through high-quality visualizations and 3D renderings. These visuals depicted the 3D model and secondary packaging in a realistic setting, highlighting the interplay between the product and its packaging. The sleek, minimalist design of the bottle, paired with the thoughtfully crafted secondary packaging, created a cohesive visual identity that was both elegant and environmentally conscious. A studio photoshoot was conducted to capture the final model and packaging in various angles, emphasizing the delicate balance between Twiggy's bold influence and the innocence embodied by the fragrance. The final presentation showcased the product in all its facets, from the initial concept to the completed design, leaving a lasting impression of purity and sophistication.
