Sweethearts (Note: This was a university project, not an actual client assignment.)
The goal of this project was to redesign the packaging for Sweethearts, the iconic candy brand, with a modern twist while preserving the brand's nostalgic charm. The redesign aimed to create packaging specifically for Valentine's Day, aligning with the theme of love and affection. The new design needed to be functional, aesthetically pleasing, and capable of securely holding the candies without requiring additional materials. The packaging also had to include a viewing window to showcase the candy and a writable section for personal messages, adhering to Sweethearts' brand identity of spreading love and sweetness.

The redesign process began with a deep dive into the Sweethearts brand, understanding its history, values, and existing product range. A key insight was the brand's strong association with Valentine's Day and its emphasis on conveying sweet, heartfelt messages. Building on this, the concept was to create a packaging design that would be both nostalgic and contemporary, appealing to a wide range of consumers. Research included analyzing current market trends in candy packaging, consumer preferences, and environmental considerations. The focus was on designing a package that was visually appealing, sustainable, and easy to use. The result was a thick paper or cardstock package that could be opened and closed securely, featuring a see-through window to display the candy inside. The packaging design incorporated warm, pink tones and cute illustrations to evoke feelings of love and affection, with a dedicated space for personal messages to make the gift even more special.
The technical drawings included detailed schematics of the redesigned Sweethearts packaging, showing all dimensions and specifications. The design featured a straightforward structure, utilizing thick paper or cardstock to create a durable yet lightweight package. The drawings illustrated the packaging's ability to be opened and closed securely without needing tape or glue, highlighting the integration of the window for candy visibility. They also included the layout for the message-writing section, ensuring that every element aligned with the overall design theme and functionality. These 2D drawings served as the blueprint for creating a functional and visually appealing package.
The final stage involved creating high-quality visualizations and renderings of the new Sweethearts packaging. These renderings showcased the package in various settings, emphasizing its Valentine's Day theme. The images highlighted the warm, pink tones and cute illustrations that complemented the candy's sweet messages. The viewing window was prominently displayed, allowing consumers to see the colorful candies inside, enhancing the product's visual appeal. The renderings also depicted the writable section, demonstrating how the packaging could be personalized for gift-giving. These visuals brought the design concept to life, providing a clear and compelling representation of the finished product.
